I am currently a student of architecture at Athabasca University in
Alberta, Canada. As an artist, the study of architecture is of great interest to me as
every building is a unique work of art that expresses a message to the users of the
space it inhabits.
In this regard, I greatly admire how the construction of buildings is similar to websites or illustrations
in which they communicate through form and function the beauty of the world in which we live. Much like
websites and graphic illustrations, buildings portray a users message through a different medium of
communication. Bricks and dirt, some of the first materials used in the construction of buildings are
much like the coding languages HTML and CSS that provide the scaffolding to produce beautiful websites
online. As an illustrator, web and graphic designer I enjoy the analogies between architecture, web
design and illustration, as I believe these areas of inquiry all make me a better artist through their
unique perspectives.
